Steps to Create a Channel

  1. Navigate to the "Channels" section in the sidebar
  2. Click the "+" button next to "Channels" or the "New Channel" button
  3. Enter a name for your channel (use a descriptive name related to its purpose)
  4. Optionally, add a description to help others understand the channel's purpose
  5. Choose the channel type:
    • Public: Visible and accessible to all workspace members
    • Private: Only visible to invited members
  6. Click "Create Channel" to finish

Channel Naming Conventions

Consider using these prefixes for better organization:

  • team- for team-specific channels (e.g., team-marketing)
  • proj- for project-specific channels (e.g., proj-website-redesign)

How to effectively communicate in channels

Nyxhora's channels offer various ways to communicate with your team:

Sending Messages

  1. Click on a channel in the sidebar to open it
  2. Type your message in the text field at the bottom
  3. Press Enter to send the message
  4. For longer messages with formatting, use the expanded editor by clicking the expand icon

Message Formatting

  • Bold: Use **text** or Ctrl/Cmd+B
  • Italic: Use *text* or Ctrl/Cmd+I
  • Code: Use `code` for inline code or ```code``` for code blocks
  • Lists: Start lines with - for bullet points or 1. for numbered lists
  • Links: Paste URLs directly or use [text](URL) format

Mentions and Notifications

  • @mentions: Type @ followed by a username to notify someone specifically
  • @channel: Use @channel to notify everyone in the channel
  • Notification settings: Customize your notification preferences in settings

How to share content in channels

Channels make it easy to share various types of content with your team:

Uploading Files

  1. Click the attachment icon (paperclip) in the message input
  2. Select a file from your computer
  3. Optionally, add a message to accompany the file
  4. Press Enter to send

Sharing Documents

  1. Click the "+" button in the message input
  2. Select "Share Document"
  3. Browse and select an existing Nyxhora document
  4. The document will be linked in the channel with a preview

Supported File Types

  • Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, etc. (displayed inline)
  • Documents: PDF, DOCX, XLSX, etc. (with preview)
  • Media: MP4, MP3, etc. (with playback controls)

Managing Channels
How to organize and maintain your channels

Keep your channels organized and effective with these management features:

Channel Settings

  1. Open the channel you want to manage
  2. Click the channel name at the top to open the channel details
  3. Select "Channel Settings" to access options for:
    • Renaming the channel
    • Changing the description
    • Converting between public and private
    • Setting notification preferences

Managing Members

For private channels, you can manage who has access:

  1. Open the channel details
  2. Select "Members"
  3. Click "Add Members" to invite new people
  4. To remove a member, find their name in the list and click the remove icon

Archiving Channels

When a channel is no longer needed but you want to preserve its history:

  1. Open the channel settings
  2. Scroll down and click "Archive Channel"
  3. Confirm your decision
  4. Archived channels can be viewed but not posted in
  5. Admins can unarchive channels if needed later
